What this agreement does—and does not do

It records proof of purchase

Official used-vehicle registration guidance requires proof of purchase. This generator records the parties, vehicle, price, payment terms and date in one printable document.

It does not replace official forms

The seller still submits the NCO notification. The buyer separately completes the RLV application and supplies the registration, identity, address, roadworthy and licensing documents required by the registering authority.

It helps document disclosed defects

A written defect list reduces ambiguity, but no template can guarantee a legal outcome or override rights and duties that apply to the transaction.

It creates a handover record

The optional receipt records cleared payment, possession time, odometer, keys and documents. Each party should retain a signed copy and supporting photographs or payment records.

Frequently asked questions

Should both parties sign every page?

Signing the final signature section is essential to the template. Initialling each page and any handwritten amendments can make it clearer which version both parties accepted, but this generator does not give legal advice on execution formalities.

What should happen before final payment?

Verify the seller, vehicle, VIN, registration certificate, titleholder and finance position. Agree the payment route in writing. Do not treat an agreement as a substitute for lender settlement instructions, the original registration certificate or official transfer documents.

What if the vehicle is financed?

The finance institution is normally the titleholder while the agreement remains active. Use a current written settlement quote and follow the lender's payment and document-release process. Read the Selling a Financed Car Guide.

When must the buyer register the car?

Official guidance says the buyer must register and license the vehicle within 21 days after the change of ownership. Late registration can create arrears and penalties.
